Beyond Healthcare: Shearwater Health’s Triumph in Sapang Uwak
In an exemplary demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Shearwater Health recently organized the Sapang Uwak Community Care Day on November 17, 2023. The event, hosted at Sapang Uwak Elementary and High School in Porac, Pampanga, marked the second visit by Shearwater Health to the community, showcasing the organization's unwavering commitment to making a positive impact beyond the realms of healthcare outsourcing.
The initiative was spearheaded by Shearwater Health's employee interest group, 'Service To Others,' a team driven by the call of giving back to society. The day was brimming with purposeful activities, reflecting the diverse facets of Shearwater Health's dedication to holistic community development.
The multifaceted event encompassed a medical mission, a feeding program, a vibrant repainting project of their mobile library, and the inauguration of a covered court, symbolizing a harmonious blend of healthcare, education, and recreational facilities for the Sapang Uwak community.
Welcomed by Head of Sapang Uwak Samuel Sagun and Aeta Women’s Cooperative Community Coordinator Patricia Mas, Shearwater Health's team of dedicated volunteers embarked on a day of enrichment and collaboration.
The morning commenced with informative sessions on proper hygiene conducted by Shearwater Health Nurses, emphasizing the critical importance of hand washing in maintaining community health. The collective effort towards community well-being was further emphasized during a shared lunch, where students and volunteers engaged in talent showcases, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
The inauguration of the covered court was a poignant moment, marked by a special traditional dance performed by Sapang Uwak students. This dance not only celebrated the community's vibrant history but also symbolized the collaborative spirit between the locals and the Shearwater Health team. The dance extended an invitation to the volunteers and ShearwaterHealth's Leadership team, including Anshum Sinha (COO and Country Manager), Todd Silmon(President, Clinical Process Outsourcing), Jennifer M. Bales (Chief Human Resources Officer), Josefina Cruz (Senior Vice President for Human Capital Management), and Giselle Arellano (Vice President, Finance Accounting and Procurement), to join in the celebration.
The culminating moment of the day involved a generous donation of grocery items, vitamins, and supplements to the families, facilitated through Shearwater Health's partnerships with Central Luzon Doctors Hospital (CLDH), HMO partner Etiqa, and Peace Kamp. This collaborative effort aimed to address the immediate needs of the community, emphasizing Shearwater Health's dedication to sustainable social impact. Shearwater Health's leadership team, present throughout the event, underlined the organization's commitment to community well-being and the intrinsic connection between healthcare and societal progress. To show their respect, the children of Sapang Uwak demonstrated the Filipino culture of “Pagmamano” to Jen Bales and Todd. It is a gesture performed as a sign of respect and accepting the blessing of an elder.
In a time where corporate social responsibility is integral to a company's identity, Shearwater Health's Sapang Uwak Community Care Day stands out as an inspiring model. Beyond providing healthcare outsourcing solutions, Shearwater Health has proven that its commitment extends far beyond the professional sphere, embracing a holistic approach to community development.
